Tom Collins // Timber Flooring
Our stunning Vienna Woods Tom Collins boards are sourced from Slow Grown FSC-certified Lithuanian oak.
The extreme cold winters in Lithuania slows the growth of the oak to produce a very hard, dense wood.
While other sizes are available, the most popular 220mm wide, 20mm thick boards feature a generous 6mm oak top layer. The wide and extra long oak boards up to 2400mm bring a grand ambiance to any interior.
This floor is available in 180mm and 220mm wide planks and also a 600 x 120mm herringbone.
Available in a matt lacquer or hard-wax oil finish. Finished in New Zealand by local artisans.
If you believe the rumours, the Tom Collins has a mischievous beginning. It’s believed that the Tom Collins began as a joke circulating in New York in the mid 1870’s. A group of friends began telling people in bars that a man named Tom Collins was spinning lies about them throughout New York’s bars. Naturally this lead people to seek him out, going into bars looking for a “Tom Collins”. Eventually, one crafty bar tender caught on and created a cocktail of the same name. Anybody who came in asking for “Tom Collins” would unwittingly be ordering a tall gin drink. The recipe was first scribed by Jerry Thomas (known as the father of mixology) in 1876. It is a straight-forward combination of lemon juice, sugar, carbonated water and gin.
