ACG Commercial Project: American Oak Pureline

We recently completed a successful commercial project for the ACG Sunderland Early Learning School. We were challenged in helping create a safe, non-toxic and functional environment for children to learn and grow.

It was important for the flooring to be hard-wearing and yet still beautifully natural and light.

We ended up using our Vienna Woods American Oak Pureline timber as it is of high-quality, features a reasonably straight grain and is consistent in colour and pattern. The overall result looks fantastic!

Customer Service – Second to None

Vienna Woods customer Vinka Clemmett, share’s her experience working with Vienna Woods and reasons behind why she chose to renovate her home with Admonter Oak Grey flooring.

What was your inspiration when designing your home?

We live in a classic villa which had original Kauri floorboards in that classic orange tone, but I was ready for a change. I knew I wanted to keep our home light and open so I was after flooring that wasn’t too dark or heavy, but that would also not pick up on every speck of dust or dirt! The Oak Grey floorboards that we ended up choosing provided this balance. I also have this beautiful tartan runner that is a main feature in my home, so I knew wanted flooring that would work nicely with that.

What was the overall look and feel you were trying to achieve?

I wanted to create an overall look that was classy, classic and modern, yet subtle enough that it didn’t come across too flashy. It was important that the floor complemented my home, contributing to the overall look and feel. I wanted it to just meld in with the rooms in the house which the Oak Grey achieves. It is a beautiful wood that creates a comfortable and welcoming living environment.

Why did you choose this Vienna Woods flooring?

I had a few key things I was looking for when choosing my flooring – I wanted a wide board, nothing too dark or heavy and I needed it to be hard wearing because I have three dogs so I didn’t want it getting scratched up. I visited around ten different companies and just couldn’t find what I had envisioned until I came to Vienna Woods and found the Admonter Oak Grey. It was exactly what I had in mind.

What made the whole experience all the more pleasant was the team who went above and beyond to assist me. Nothing was too much trouble! Damon Jackson, the Owner of Vienna Woods, personally dropped off samples several times, to make sure I was comfortable with my decision. He was honest and up front and delivered on time. The overall service was second to none.

Herringbone – A Family Home with Soul

Vienna Woods customer Sophie Heyworth shares her inspiration behind the design of her home and the reasons why they went with Vienna Woods Flamingo in a Herringbone flooring pattern.

Why did you choose this Vienna Woods flooring?

Vienna Woods was our first port of call having seen their flooring in a number of homes we liked. The idea of a herringbone floor was something we didn’t realise was possible until we saw a beautiful example installed by one of VW’s craftsman installers – we were immediately hooked. We wanted to use timber with plenty of grain and texture, laid as individual pieces – something that would feel amazing and tactile under bare feet. Flooring is arguably one of the most important decisions in a house and has a huge impact on the aesthetics and feel of a space, so we thought it was worth investing in.

What was your inspiration when designing your home?

We wanted to create a home with soul – to us that meant warmth, natural materials and a sense of craft. It’s not a big home by today’s standards and is a renovated ‘modernist’ style architectural home from the 70’s. It had nice proportions, large windows and novel details – some which work and some which don’t! We were inspired by the architect’s original drawings and details, many of which were never implemented. So we essentially went back to the materials and detailing which were originally drawn by the original architect and then improved on by our builder, landscaper and kitchen designer.

What was the overall look and feel you were trying to achieve?

For us, the house is predominantly intimate and personal, yet able to open out on both sides in summer to create a pavilion-style area for larger numbers of friends and family. In that sense it makes a great summer house which is cool, breezy and very much indoor-outdoor, whereas in winter it is closed in to create a cozy, warm place to hibernate. Ultimately the house needs to function as a busy family home, so it has to be able to withstand a lot of wear and tear. The floor is testament to this – we don’t have to be too precious about it and it still looks great. As with all natural materials, it gets better with age!
